Undergraduate Textbook

In 2011 while teaching in the fashion department of Pratt Institute Erin was contacted by Applied Visual Arts Publishing (AVA) to write the first undergraduate textbook that offered a dual learning focus of both fashion and textile design equally. AVA is a European publishing house whose books are renowned for being design-led. Their books are written by leading academic authorities, and have been adopted by many hundreds of universities, colleges and higher education bodies around the world. AVA has a strong following within the design community. AVA was acquired by Bloomsbury in July 2012.

Sourcing and Selecting Textiles for Fashion is a 208 page, seven chapter textbook with 200 full color illustrations and photos. It gives a full overview of the current textile market and shows how to apply this knowledge when creating a fashion collection. Trend, inspiration, color, creating the collection and how to enhance design through textile choice and surface design are included. A perspective of current innovation and sustainability is offered in each area.

Sourcing and Selecting Textiles for Fashion is among Bloomsbury’s Required Reading Range for academics and professionals.
