Fashion Bio
Growing up up you never would have pegged Erin as a future fashion designer. Or perhaps you would have, I suppose it would depend on your taste. As a child Erin could often be found in crazy get ups like furry green knee socks and flip flops with a pair of ripped up jean shorts climbing trees and jumping out windows. The only girl in her Catholic school to refuse to wear the regulation plaid jumper, she had a pair of plaid pants made for school. As she got older and her flamboyant style grew her parents began to seriously question the idea of allowing children to choose their own clothes. As the years went on school uniforms were traded for an 80s punk uniform of all black and then the truely flamboyant disco inspired look of the rave days.
Though Erin choose to get her first degree in illustration not fashion her love for clothes and style grew. Influenced by her years in NYC club scene of the 90s, working at the famous rave club the Limelight and a lifelong love of triftshopping and antiqueing with her mother, Erin evolved a style and eye all her own. After graduating college in 1996 Erin spent 11 years running her own t-shirt line, Three, and traveling the world asborbing cultural vibrancy.
In 2003 Erin received a post graduate degree in Fashion from Helen Le Feaux in Vancouver BC. Helen's is a classic intensive focusing on patterning, draping, and construction. This training honed Erin's natural talent. After moving Brooklyn in 2004 Erin has immersed herself in the fashion world. Over the past few years she has painted custom sneakers for Adidas, spent three years as the head designer for a branded and private label accessoires firm, been chosen as a top semi-finalist for Project Runway two seasons, and worked on the design team of highly publicized contemporary brand , Outlaws of the Border. Her designs have been featured in numerous fashion publications and blogs and sold at many stores including Urban Outfitters, Barney's and Saks.
Currently Erin is staying involved in many projects. Her main focus however is launching her own line, soulOAK. Erin believes there can be more to fashion then selling a corporate logo. soulOAK is a sustainable, sweatshop free apparel line. Please keep an eye on it's development at www.souloak.com.
